SUMMER OF SERVICE 2018

SUMMER OF SERVICE 2018. Puerto Rico Delegation.
The people of Puerto Rico continue to suffer from the devastation Hurricane Maria left. A new study estimates that at least 4,600 people have died. Imagine not being able to depend on the local hospital having electricity, or worrying for weeks about where your water will come from. Imagine looking out and seeing temporary blue tarps on top of most rooftops in your area. Imagine living knowing a loved one who was washed away or gone missing, and having multiple people on your block with the same experience.

How can we abandon our fellow human beings in their time of need? Do you want to do something to help? First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica is sending a team in partnership with Praying Pelican Missions to help rebuild in San Juan. We are doing direct building, guided by local partners who have long-term relationships with those in need.  We need your help. Your financial support will make a difference in real people’s lives in a region that desperately needs our help.

Iowa Delegation.
They say our country is more divided than ever. People who live in cities supposedly cannot relate to those in rural America, and vice versa. But what if our youth were to come together and serve the needy as one body in Christ?  Last year, church partners from Iowa came to First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica to begin a relationship with us.

This year, First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica along with Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in Manhattan are sending a youth delegation to Iowa to help serve the homeless together with Presbyterian church partners in the area. Our youth will be spread across multiple local mission sites, doing direct service work. We also hope to nurture genuine conversation and relational bonding among young people with different life experiences in different places, all children of God. We are truly all in this together.

Two mission groups. SUMMER OF SERVICE 2018.
With everything happening in the world, sometimes you feel powerless to doing something that could help. This is an opportunity to be part of something greater than yourself. Every donation you send to us will make a concrete impact on the people we are serving.

“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”  Hebrews 6:10.
