Hi, my name is David Humphris, and for the past 7 months, I’ve been running hay into drought-affected communities in South Australia. While some areas have seen a touch of green, for many — especially around Waikerie, Loxton, and the wider Northern Mallee region — the drought is far from over.
These farming families are facing their third year of devastating conditions. Rainfall has been almost nonexistent — just 50mm (2 inches) for the year so far, with the last July rain bringing barely 12mm. That’s not enough to give crops or pastures a fighting chance.
The result?
Crops have failed.
Lambing rates are shockingly low.
Stock are suffering with no feed.
Even planted sheep feed is being blown away by relentless winds.
These families need urgent help to survive this season — and you can make a real difference.
We’re asking for just the cost of a coffee each week ($5). If 100,000 people gave just that, we could fund 35 road trains of hay every week, bringing lifesaving feed from Western Australia — as long as the SA Government continues covering freight costs.
To put it in perspective:
The South Australian Government currently spends $1.4 million every working day on consultants for Whyalla Steelworks. If they worked just four days a week, the savings from one day alone could fund these 35 hay trucks every week.
Let’s show our farmers they’re not forgotten.
Let’s get hay on the road.
