Rolling the IVF Dice Again...
Donation protected
Brad and I were married in September 2011 and wanted to have children right away. Life, as it often does, had other plans. We learned that due to congenital medical conditions, our only chance of conceiving a biological child was through in vitro fertilization, which our insurance does not cover. It also comes with a 50/50 chance of actually having a child.
We rolled the dice in 2012 and welcomed Elliott in August 2013. We are so blessed to have Elliott and we love him fiercely. Check out Melanie's instagram account if you need proof (www.instagram.com/melaniemcb).
We'd love to roll the dice one more time. We've been saving, but the process is costly and there are often additional costs for medications once you get going. After talking to our doctor, here is what we are looking at:
$7600--IVF Procedures (monitoring through bloodwork/ultrasounds; egg retrieval; lab fees for conception, petri dish, monitoring; embryo transfer; and freezing/storage of embryos (if we have any left).
$5500--Medications (these include all of the shots necessary to overstimulate my ovaries and injections to help support the embryo(s) after transfer)
IVF is costly--emotionally, physically, and financially. For two weeks I will give myself injections in the stomach in order for my body to produce additional eggs (most likely 8-10). I will endure an egg retrieval, where they essentially vacuum my eggs out of me. Then, Brad will begin giving me injections in my bum to increase hormone levels to support an embryo. After 3-5 days, we will transfer 1-2 embryos. We will sit on pins and needles for two weeks until a blood test confirms pregnancy (or lack thereof).
We are financially able to support an addition to the family, but the upfront costs are hard to come by. We're fighting to maintain our emergency savings account. We're not asking for the entire process to be funded, but a little help would be incredibly appreciated. Please, share what you can and know that every little bit helps. Prayers and good thoughts are needed, too, and those are thankfully free. :)
If you are going through a similar journey, please know that our prayers are with you. We've paid it forward as we've been able to thus far and plan on continuing this as we move forward.
Thank you. We love you.
