Dear friends,
Jen and I are having our second baby, Sophia Athena Vamvakias. She'll be arriving around April 18th. Like Demetri, who's now two, she'll be born at home with a midwife.
The midwife fee is $2,700. This is due by April 4th. I will also be taking a week off work without pay and losing $500.
Although we've been saving since we found out Jen is pregnant, there is no way we'll have the money in time. And since I make only enough for us to live on, we can't afford to lose $500 in pay and still make our monthly living expenses.
As you may know, I have a fellowship teaching 8th grade science at a high-need middle school in the mountains of western North Carolina. No matter how much we skimp to save, my $2,100 a month salary barely covers rent and basic living costs.

PS: I should have added this sooner: If you would like to loan us money, that would also be wonderful. We are happy to repay with 10% interest. I won't be able to repay though, until we finish this fellowship and get a real job, which will be just about two more years.
