Our Daughter’s CDH Journey

Update: 

Our sweet Sophia was born four weeks premature and has already shown more strength than we could ever imagine. In her first week of life, she has undergone two surgeries and has been on ECMO (life support) since just a day old to help her tiny body rest and heal. She is now one week old, and every day is a step forward in her fight against Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). Watching her go through so much so early has been incredibly hard, but we continue to hold onto faith and hope as she fights bravely. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for and supporting our family during this unimaginable time. Your love, messages, and donations mean more than words can express.

I am pregnant and due in just a few weeks, and our baby girl, Sophia, has been diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia , a rare and life-threatening condition. Because of this, her organs have moved into her chest, which has made it very hard for her lungs and heart to grow the way they should.

After birth, she will need to be immediately intubated and taken to resuscitation room to get her stable enough to receive surgery to repair her diaphragm, and possibly heart surgery as well. She may also need life-saving measures like ECMO (a heart-lung bypass machine) and time in the PICU, depending on how she does. Even with treatment, she will be a medically fragile baby and will face a long NICU stay if she survives. 

I’m on a medical leave and not able to be paid for it. 

The hospital where she’ll receive care is 40-45 minutes away, and I want to spend every possible moment with her during this critical time. Right now, I have no income and my only focus is being there for her fight.

Funds raised will go directly toward:

• Travel and gas to get to and from the NICU/PICU

• Basic expenses while I’m unable to work & help support my other kiddos at home

• Allowing me to stay with her in her first weeks of life

•funeral expenses if she passes 

This is the hardest journey of my life, but it is also filled with hope. My prayer is to one day bring my daughter home, hold her in my arms without wires and machines, and give her the safe and loving life she deserves.
