2024 Sonoma Turkey Trot for SOS

Hi, I am Sebastian Lema, a high school senior at Marin Academy. I live and grew up in Sonoma, and since attending high school, have developed a passion for running.

Growing up, one of my favorite holidays was and still is Thanksgiving because it’s a holiday centered on being together and sharing.

It was my family's tradition to wake up early and go run/walk the Sonoma Turkey Trot. Unfortunately, after the Sonoma fires and COVID-19, the Sonoma Turkey Trot that I had grown to love, even before I really enjoyed running, was discontinued. My family greatly missed the tradition and browsed alternative Turkey Trot options, but found that part of the charm was running in Sonoma with the community we love.

Last year, I organized a 5k run starting from my house with family, neighbors, and friends, reviving the tradition everyone loved so much. This year, I want to continue expanding this Turkey Trot and hopefully rebuild it into the community tradition that it used to be.

One of the essential parts of the past Sonoma Turkey Trot was its impact and fundraising for those less fortunate. To continue this tradition of giving back to the community, I will be partnering with Sonoma Overnight Support (SOS). SOS volunteers have been serving the Sonoma community for 34 years and it officially became a non-profit in 2003.

“The mission of Sonoma Overnight Support is to feed the hungry in Sonoma and Sonoma Valley.”

Since January SOS has seen a 13% surge in the number of people counting on them for food compared to 2023. It is estimated that they will serve close to 78,000 meals this year, a 7.4% increase over last year.

Please join me in the next step of reviving our local Turkey Trot and helping hundreds of our less fortunate community members who do not have the joy of being able to sit around an abundance of food with family and friends and sign up for the 2024 Sonoma Turkey Trot.

How do I sign up?

To sign up, please donate $20 per adult or $10 for children age 5 and over. Please use your legal name as it will be used to verify you at registration. This race will start at 8:00 AM on Thanksgiving morning Nov. 28. Plan on arriving at 7:30 AM to Depot Park located at 250 1st St W, Sonoma, CA.
