Sonnie Rae and Sammie Fae Fundraiser

The loss of a parent is traumatic regardless of our age and circumstance, and I suppose it is more traumatic when a young person has to face a life-changing event such as the death of a mother. I write this appeal because I recognize community is powerful and can help ease the pain and confusion in times like this for those suffering. Sonnie Rae and Sammie Fae Greene are my Nieces. They lost their mother a little over two months ago as they were starting off their summer vacation. The loss was completely unexpected and tragic. Since then, many people have asked our family how they can help them during this very challenging time, and I want to say, on behalf of Sonnie and Sammie, I am greatly appreciative of these offerings. As we navigated the summer and helped the girls get some sort of normalcy to begin school, we found the time quickly upon us and the hard times of loss were starkly in front of the girls as they didn’t have their mother for the annual back-to-school rituals and exercises. Sonnie and Sammie are now living with their disabled father in a one-bedroom home in Carencro. With some help from family, the girls are in the process of trying to move home next to their father as they will no longer be living in their mother’s house.

Sonnie Rae is studying Interior Design at the University of Lafayette, and Sammie Fae will be a Junior at Beau Chene High School in Arnaudville. The one wish that the girls have is to have a place to live next to their father.

I love these girls dearly like they are my own and I am asking for monetary assistance to help them secure a home as they start this new school year.
