SOMOS started with two friends Charlotte and Lisa-Maria. We became the guardians of 25,000 square metres of land in the north of Tenerife. We moved in to a half derelict house with no electricity, no water and no windows and slept on the floor together for months with our dog Saky. Since then we have been on an epic journey, we still are. We are learning to live with the land, with her rhythms and seasons.

We have weathered it all: rain inside the house, kitchen tents blown away by storms, hauling panels and sandbags up the hill, digging dry toilets by hand, making costly mistakes, dancing naked in the rain, crying and screaming and learning through it all.

We didn’t wait until it was polished, looking like a gipsy paradise we invited people to come and stay with us on this wild land and start playing, with dust and mud we started hosting open days, working bees, workshops, trainings, weekly women of earth meetings, regenerative culture meetings and much more.

Sometimes nobody showed up, sometimes many people did, sometimes people left half way through, we kept going.

Some people even did not leave and our team grew, with Oran and Jennifer joining as main spaceholders and more people staying here and becoming part of the family.

Since January we now have a proper events tent with a solid floor — a huge celebration for SOMOS because we are a training ground for agents of transformation and change-makers to be empowered to bring their mission into reality.

All in all hundreds of people from the local area and all around the world have visited and stayed in SOMOS exploring what it takes to create the life they really want. We are a playground for researching and experimenting how to create intentional human cultures that serve us and the planet!

To continue this incredibly important work we need to improve our facilities and become more sustainable, we are fundraising to expand and improve our renewable energy and water conservation systems, plant a food forest,, create an access and build a weather-proof space for eating and gathering.

Imagine landing on a new planet, there is no society yet, what culture would you create if you got to start over?

If you had unlimited resources and no emotional fears, how would you choose to live? What drives you? What lights you up really, once you get bored of sex, drugs and rock and roll? What stops you from living full-out now? Are you aware those are all excuses and not real limitations? That the only thing in your way is you?

SOMOS is the research laboratory and playground to ask all these questions, to do weird experiments, to go ‘insane’, to explore new ways of learning where there is no right answer, just actions and results, just exploration and discovery.

SOMOS is a team of crazy explorer friends who know that something else is possible right now than the linear life menu offered by the ecocidal capitalistic patriarchal empire or the love and light fantasy world sold at a high price by 'enlightened' instagrammers - and we are proving it!

We are not saying we have it all figured out, that is the point! Once you think you know, then it’s game over, goodbye new possibilities. SOMOS is about trying stuff, making messes, asking questions that we never asked before, calling each other out on our bulshit, admitting we have no clue what we are doing, pulling apart social norms that don’t serve us and feeling the fear of going outside our comfort zones and doing something different.

We are continually learning how to be with Gaia, how to collaborate with her. We don’t do it perfectly and are far from being self-sustainable. We do use recycled or local items wherever we can and we do not use cement nor cut down trees, the land is our teacher and friend. We have very basic amenities in close connection with Gaia, and this is a great help in expanding our modern culture boxes and being with the aliveness of nature without trying to condition or modify her.

Patreon - This is more of a monthly supporter, you can pay any amount you wish per month and be part of the online forum where we share articles, photos, videos and updates. This is for those of you who want to support us ongoingly and be one of the back bones of the project to pay for the smaller things and the upkeep of SOMOS.
