Solo to the South Pole for Climate Justice

Dear friends and fellow climate champions,

I'm going to the end of the world for climate action. Skiing solo to the South Pole to collect snow samples for science and use the publicity for climate advocacy.

My name is Lilith van Amerongen, a 23-year-old climate activist from Hamburg, Germany. Like you, I'm deeply committed to addressing the urgent climate issues that adversely impact our world. I've been actively involved in the climate movement, and I'm reaching out to you because I believe we share a common passion for creating positive change.

In November 2024, I'll be embarking on a groundbreaking solo expedition to the South Pole, with the goal of becoming one of the youngest persons in history to undertake such a journey. Why am I taking on this incredible challenge? To be a voice for my generation, shining a spotlight on the critical issue of climate change and the urgent need for action. I believe that by going to the ends of the Earth, both metaphorically and literally, we can make a powerful statement about the global impact of climate change.

This expedition goes beyond personal achievement. I'll be collecting snow samples on the Antarctic plateau, contributing valuable data for atmospheric particle research led by Heike Wex at the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) in Germany. This data is crucial for understanding snow formation and developing climate models that can guide our efforts in combating climate change.

But science alone is not enough. We require a voice to amplify the message of climate justice. That's why I am currently planning and creating a climate campaign. The overarching objective is to inspire and educate, leveraging the powerful combination of adventure and science communication to create a lasting impact. Media coverage creates public attention and narratives that can lead to social action. Which is essential in our times. The aim is to empower everyone to use their voice for positive change.

To make this ambitious project a reality, I need your support. The estimated expedition costs are 145,000 Euros, covering transportation, training expeditions, equipment, logistics in Antarctica (more than half of the cost), and insurance. During the preparations, I need support, especially now to cover the cost of training and equipment. As the journey gets closer, I require support on every step of the way in Antarctica. I am not financially profiting from this project. Your contribution only goes into the funds needed to embark on the journey. I invite you to become my partner for climate justice.
