Hello! We're Hart and Bridget, creators of a new immersive theater company called Depth Accelerator. We're raising money to fund our upcoming immersive game: SOLIS.
SOLIS is an 8-hour LARP for 22 players set in southern France, circa 1200. The drama commences when King Bonafós l'Esperat of Chandorée issues an urgent summons to all the nobles of the kingdom a week before an upcoming total solar eclipse.
We've been writing this story since last November, after we were lucky enough to participate in Fielding's Hollow , an incredible LARP written by our friend, Alice Maynwaring. Although we'd written LARPs before, Fielding's Hollow broke open the medium for us and expanded our notion of what was possible with immersive theater. Thereafter, we knew we wanted to write a LARP in a similar style: a limited cast of very deep characters, all with secret backstories and objectives.
From the start of writing SOLIS, we idly daydreamed about running it at a real castle. A month or two ago, to our delight and mild trepidation, a string of synchronicities made that possibility imminent: we got invited to run SOLIS in a real castle south of Paris, at an event/festival called The Castle! (In pretty much the exact location we wrote the show for??) Woohoo!
Getting to Paris costs a lot of money, and we're running SOLIS for free at the event. Adding to our costs, we need to work full-time on the show to meet our deadline -- turning down other paying work and taking time away from our regular jobs. That's why we're asking for whatever help you can offer to cover our living expenses as we make the final push.
The expenses we're looking to cover through crowdfunding include:
- $1200 airfare for 2
- $500 lodging in Paris (for pre-show prep)
- $300 transit to the castle (train + taxi)
- $300 production costs (props & effects)
- $6000 income replacement
That puts us at a total of $8300. Anything we make above and beyond this will help us work more comfortably on SOLIS's first run -- and launch the second run in New York as soon as possible!
