Solar Power System at Eko Medical School in Lagos
Donation protected
Hello,
As you may know, medical care is in critically short supply in West Africa. The Eko University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Lagos, Nigeria was founded in 2017 to improve access to proper medical care by educating future health care professionals at all levels.
The school desperately needs a way to supply reliable power to critical systems in the hospital and laboratories. This runs the gamut from simple tissue refrigeration to dialysis machines. The electric grid in Nigeria is notoriously unreliable. The degradation of the Nigerian power grid has continued to the point that it is no longer useable. Therefore the university has relied on diesel generators to provide power.
Diesel fuel has become scarce and prohibitively expensive. The money from this fund will be used to install a solar-powered energy storage system at the school and hospital. The proposed system will substantially offset the need for diesel generators.

What we take for granted is far from reliable in Lagos. Without access to electric power, the university and hospital cannot function.
