My name is Ryan, and I’m working with a group called Let’s Share the Sun to bring solar power to families in rural Puerto Rico. This project was inspired by a trip I took with my dad, who also partnered with this group. During our visit, I saw firsthand how much of a difference reliable electricity can make, especially for families dealing with medical needs. For example, some families need to keep insulin cold for diabetes, and a dependable refrigerator powered by solar energy can be life-changing.
Our small team is traveling from California to Puerto Rico to help install solar panels and provide essential utilities for people who need them most. Many of the families we’ll be working with face challenges like unreliable power, which affects their ability to store medicine and travel for medical care. Not only that it will impact all others around with them also getting this basic need. Me personally I was especially moved by the little kids I met who are getting the solar and how they struggled especially after hurricane Maria— what might seem like a small utility to us can make a huge impact to them and their families.
All funds raised will go directly toward purchasing solar panels and covering the cost of installation. We’re aiming to start this project by Thanksgiving, and every contribution will help us bring light, safety, and hope to these communities. Thank you for supporting our mission to make a real difference in people’s lives.
- This also will not only help individuals in Puerto Rico, but also the whole world with new sources of energy rising. And these sources such like solar will slow down climate change and air pollution. So with these solars being put on roofs, it is one more step in the right direction.
