The Big Heart Circus is on a mission to provide laughter relief for migrant and impoverished communities. “The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.” - Mark Twain THE PLAN: Buy a magical, converted circus bus and go bring laughter and joy to immigrants and the communities around them on the US/Mexican border. This project’s focus is to provide LAUGHTER RELIEF, circus shows, and workshops — while educating ourselves and our networks about life on the border and on the current migration path. When we raise all the funds we will embark from Bellingham, Washington and drive south - stopping along the way in communities affected by last years’ wildfires and on indigenous reservations. The ultimate destination is border communities where a great deal of tragedy, violence, poverty and hardship has arisen as immigrant families seek asylum. In our travels and our planning, we are treading slowly and lightly to assure the safety of the migrants and our artists, and to assure we are working in step with the NGOs already in the area. As we travel, we will live in very modest communal setting on the bus and work together like a caravan - or a circus. This initial trip is the first of what will be an annual venture to donate our skills to communities in crisis. Let the great Big Heart Circus migration begin! THE TEAM: We are not doctors. The bus was previously used by Big Underwear Social Circus. $8000 - Travel and diesel, plus bus maintenance for three cross country trips. $2000 - Shared food. $3000 - Travel expenses for artists. $5000 - Emergency fund and future project fund.
