Social Rehabilitation Home

Hello, my name is Angela, and I am Erica's Mommy. I am the owner of Yahuah's, a social rehabilitation facility for young women with social/emotional/cognitive challenges that prevent them from living independently. In my testimony, I have experienced supporting my daughter, who has unique challenges and must be cared for daily. And I know other families would benefit from a social rehabilitation facility for their young women with unique challenges.
On January 15, 2004, our family was blessed with our seventh child and only girl. I can remember the day as if it were yesterday and all the events that surrounded her arrival. I, as her mother, was looking forward to all the things we would do together to form our bond and watch her grow into a spiritual, intellectual, creative, and overall healthy young woman. As of today, all those things have occurred, but not without their challenges. In the same year, nine months later, Erica experienced a stroke…
October 2004 was the beginning of a beautiful journey to this place. A place of forgiveness, patience, peace, understanding, and the courage to endure. I am a true “Momma Bear”, and a woman of faith. From the moment Erica got up that October day until now, I keep a watchful eye on her and am not only mother and daughter, but we are also companions and friends.
Being a parent is not an easy task, and as Erica has had challenges, I’ve had to provide solutions, gather resources, and advocate on every level, from healthcare to education. Erica has taught me how to fight with every fiber in me to ensure she is well taken care of when she’s not in my direct care (which is not very often). As Erica was growing to have unique challenges that could be a barrier to making friends, I started a girl’s group so girls her age, with or without physical or cognitive difficulties, could get to know her. Erica thrived and became more socially equipped. The public school system was not a pleasant experience for Erica or our family, so we decided to bring her home to be in a virtual one-on-one learning experience. This modality of learning has allowed Erica to thrive, and for her to trust that we will always do what’s best for her. Erica just met another milestone in her life and graduated from High School May of this year, 2022.
So now the challenge is different; she’s a young woman with different needs and desires to connect with other people her age. And as I’m aging and her sole provider, I need respite too. It was brought back to my remembrance through The Holy Spirit of an idea that came over me when she was about seven years old to create a social living experience for young women like Erica, thus Yahuah’s is spoken into existence. Now that we are here, at this place and time, I am experiencing an overwhelming sense of joy and gratitude that The Creator of all things has chosen me for such a time as this. I know in my spirit that the idea He has birthed through me will help a selected population of young women feels connected, loved, cared for, and valued. The parents or caregivers will feel a sense of gratitude as they can be assured that their loved ones will be cared for with the same love and concern I have for Erica. And our journey continues…
I seek your help to make this vision a reality for these young women. I thank you in advance for your gift. These funds will be used to renovate a former childcare facility into a ten bedroom facility. The outside will be a beautiful oasis at the end of a long day, where they can commune and create their own experiences with each other. The young women will have a chef creating plant based cuisine. There will be programming to establish more independence, and give families respite five out of seven days of the week. Our program is different as we provide evening care and support, allowing aging caregivers to get rest.
