Smoke and Soul Project: Feeding those in need across Australia
13th June – 9th August 2026

On 13th June we fired up the first of 19 BBQs that we're cooking over the next two months across Australia. The Smoke and Soul Project is a 57-day, 7,000 km journey throughout Victoria, the ACT, NSW and Queensland, lending our support to 19 local charities by feeding
people in need. For the past several years, my family - wife Cara and two daughters have been running community BBQs and supporting outreach programs in Adelaide. Along the way we've met people from every walk of life: people who have fallen on hard times, people who simply needed a warm meal, people who felt invisible. What we've learned is that food does more than fill stomachs. It starts conversations. It builds connections. It reminds people that somebody cares. The Smoke and Soul Project is our way of taking that message around Australia.

19 Towns

A huge shoutout and thank you to everyone who has donated and supported the Smoke and Soul Project to date. We're not only cooking alongside the charities who cook every night in their local communities, we also want to continue raising awareness of their work right across Australia.

At each stop we will:
  • Cook and serve free meals to people in need
  • Support local charities already serving their communities
  • Share the stories of the people and organisations who are making a difference
  • Raise awareness of homelessness, hardship and food insecurity
  • Encourage ongoing support for local community services

Most importantly, your donation directly helps us feed people experiencing hardship throughout the journey.

Donate Today

By donating, you are supporting the 57-day Smoke and Soul Project, as well as the 19 charity partners who serve their local communities. Any funds left over at the end of the 57 days will be divided evenly across the 19 charities and community organisations we've partnered with on this project, helping them continue their work long after our BBQ trailer has headed home.

About Me

I'm Dave Meadows, a BBQ enthusiast from Adelaide who believes food has the power to bring people together. Joining me on this journey are my wife Cara and our two daughters. We're not a large organisation, we're simply a family trying to make a positive impact and show our children what kindness, compassion and community look like in action.
