We have started this fundraiser as we are serious about creating behaviour change on Ibiza's roads.

Inspired by the death of our dear friend Sommer Amari. A strong pillar of the community here in Ibiza and one who we all miss dearly.

Tragically her life was cut short, on 3rd May 2023, when she was killed in a head on road traffic accident. Her 6 year old daughter was also in the car and was immediately airlifted to ICU in Palma where she underwent a 5 hour life saving operation on her skull. She is thankfully going to be ok, with rehabilitation and the help of her family and friends.

Sommer was just embarking on a new stage of her life, after having trained to be a life coach, and she was private tutoring after taking redundancy from her 15 year teaching career, bravely taking steps to enhance her life for herself and her young family.

All of this is now no more. All taken in one split second. What a horrifying waste of a young vibrant life, when she had so much to offer to the world and the community that she was such a huge part of. One where she was loved, appreciated, and never forgotten once you’d met her! Her passion for life was infectious which made her very popular, which we could see from the amount of people that turned up to say their goodbyes at her memorial, here in Ibiza. Our lives will never be the same without her.

This accident that took her life and those similar are happening more frequently, almost daily and this cannot continue to happen on the roads of Ibiza. We need to do something to make people accountable for their behaviour when getting behind the wheel of a car.

During the summer months, the roads get crazy, with people driving far too recklessly and taking unnecessary risks. Sometimes under the influence of drink or drugs, meaning their judgement is impaired, which causes RTA's and in turn destroys lives. Accidents rates are terrifyingly high.

So that is why we are spearheading a campaign to tackle this issue and bring it to the forefront of people's minds.

SLOW DOWN FOR SOMMER will soon be launched. We are collectively working on it and with the help of some key partners on the island. We will make this a hard-hitting campaign that people will see and instantly be reminded of the consequences of not being responsible on the roads.

We are working on a broad campaign that includes an eye-catching bumper sticker to adorn all the cars of the island. We have approached the major of Santa Eularia and she is connecting us with the head honcho of the Ibiza Consell in charge of roads on the island with the aim to get traffic calming solutions in place, on that road from Santa Gertrudis but also to look at all trouble spots around the island too.

We MUST STOP other lives being lost if we can help it. Even one life saved will be worth it. THIS WILL BE SOMMERS LEGACY. She can not have died in vain.

Together with the support of you all, support from the local government agencies, the rental companies, the taxi drivers, the on and off island media agencies - we will get the message out. We need to create behaviour change. It won't happen overnight but we can create a ripple effect.

If you can help with a donation, however small, we will use the funding to pay for promotional materials - stickers, posters, flyers. For advertising on digital media outlets across the island, on billboards, in the media and to forge ahead with creating petitions and chasing up government officials to create change and make the roads safer for everyone.

We will use everything we have to get the message out there but we need funding to REALLY take this places. We have one shot to really make a stand, as a community to shout it from the rooftops to be heard, with passion and drive. So no other lives need to be lost on the roads of Ibiza.

Slow Down for Sommer, and help us spread the word across Ibiza to ensure the residents and those visiting know to be aware and drive safely and responsibly.

Travel like you know those on the road around you. Think what would happen if it were your family or friend that lost their life due to negligent driving! Nothing is worth losing a life for.
