On August 5th, one of my close friends began a journey of a lifetime or what we have been referring to as a nightmare that we cannot wake up from. Her and her families lives are now changed forever. Her 4 month old was rushed by ambulance to the hospital due to having a seizure, a high fever and trouble breathing. As soon as they got there, IV was started with bloodwork and a catheter was put in. Tests came back as a kidney infection. They decided to do an ultrasound to check her kidneys and what came next was very unexpected. They found a mass above her left kidney so decided to do a CT scan to confirm the mass and figure out what it was. After a few hours of waiting, several drs came in to let them know that the mass that was found on her adrenal gland was in fact a tumor. This tumor was cancer. After 5 days in the hospital and lots of tests, they were able to come home.
Their daughter was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Never in our wildest dreams would we have ever thought this happy precious baby girl would be diagnosed with cancer. And this was all found accidentally but in a way it was a blessing in disguise.
At this time, she will be undergoing very frequent scans and urine tests to monitor the tumor. Depending on what happens, she could be facing surgery and/or chemo. Their daughter has a long road ahead of her with so many uncertainties but all we can do is pray and let God do his work.
