Skydive for Cancer, my Auntie, my Dad and my Mum
Donation protected
In June 2022, my family received possibly the hardest news we had ever received.
My Dad, Ben, was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. He had several colonoscopies and a bowel resection surgery, followed by three brutal months of chemotherapy from which he received irreversible nerve damage to his hands and feet.
Just when we started to see the light at the end of the tunnel, his sister, my Auntie, Stephanie, was told she had an aggressive and unforgiving form of lung cancer that had metastasised to nearly everywhere in her body.
While my Dad was still fighting his battle, we were told she wouldn’t win hers. Only a few months after her diagnosis and a brave fight, including multiple excruciating surgeries, the world lost her beautiful presence, her daughter lost her mum, my Dad and his brothers lost their sister, my uncle lost his wife and my grandparents lost their only daughter. She will always be missed and the pain of her sudden loss will never be forgotten.
Only six months after the loss of my Auntie and nearly exactly a year after the start of my Dad's battle, my Mum, Catherine was diagnosed with a rare incurable form of blood cancer, Myeloma, something none of us expected.
Myeloma is a difficult and unique cancer affecting different elements of blood and bone marrow. My Mum's battle will be forever, Myeloma doesn’t go away no matter what treatment is used. Mum's future treatments are likely to consist of Stem cell transplants and rigorous chemotherapy, as well as control and repairs to the damage caused along the way. The limited treatments for Myeloma mean we have to time starting the treatment exactly right to get the best results. This means, at the moment, we have the agonising wait every two months to find out if treatment will start. We don’t know what the future holds for my Mum or for our family, but we do know that we can continue to fight together.
In May 2024, my Dad, my sister, and I are going to skydive for cancer.
We’re going to jump for everyone and anyone who has ever been or will be affected by this unforgiving, cruel disease.
We will be raising money for three charities, one for each of these amazing and brave people.
For my Dad, we will be raising money for Bowel Cancer UK. For my Auntie, we will be raising money for St. Margaret's Hospice where Stephie was so wonderfully cared for in her final days. For my Mum, we will be raising money for Myeloma UK.
Together we can make the lives of families, going through what we are, slightly less challenging by allowing the charities to continue their research and support.
Help us show cancer that we will never give up fighting against it. Maybe one day we can get to a position where no one has to feel even a fraction of the pain that my family has and will go through.
No donation is too small, any amount is one step closer to showing cancer who is stronger.
Please share this with everyone you can and support us in our jump against cancer.
All donations will be split equally between the three charities and 100% of donations will go to the charities as we are funding the skydiving costs ourselves. We are using GoFundMe as our fundraising platform as it allows us to split our donations for each charity.
If you would like to donate to a single charity, please contact us directly to arrange this.
