I'm raising funds to buy sketchbooks and art supplies to give to students and teachers of Evergreen High School who went through a school shooting on September 10th, 2025.
I was in a school shooting at Platte Canyon HS 19 years ago on 9/27/06, and I was given a sketchbook, with notes about the power of art, from students in a junior high school art class. It was a simple and beautiful gesture that provided comfort and an outlet during a challenging time in my life. I want to pass on the random act of kindness and donate sketchbooks with personal notes from school shooting survivors, quotes from artists and art therapists, and simple prompts to give the students (and teachers) permission to express and explore what they are going through after surviving a school shooting.
Evergreen HS is just down the road from Platte Canyon HS. I would go to Evergreen HS for science fair, orchestra performances, and because they had the only skate park in the area of the Front Range we lived in. Mountain kids have an unspoken bond, and so do those that have experienced gun violence.
This is a DIY effort by me so far, and I appreciate any support you can offer.
Please help me to send some love from one small mountain community to another. ❤️
