Hi there!
We are Johnny & Karine Koster, missionaries with Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We have three kids; Maria Elisabeth (17), Anna Sophia (15), and Sarah Abigail (13).
Our ministry
Ever since doing our Discipleship Training School at YWAM Salem, Oregon, in 2006, we’ve been serving God in full-time missions, living off support and loving what we do. We believe God has a plan to save people from the injustice, pain, and problems of this world, through His son Jesus Christ. We also believe that His plan is like a big puzzle in which we all have our piece to play. It has always been our vision to help young people find out what that is, release them into their destiny, and through all of that, multiply missions so the task can get finished!
14 out of the 17 years have been here in Amsterdam, serving as base directors the last 6,5 years for a community that has grown to about 130 staff that are reaching out to sex workers in the Red Light District, to refugees and Muslims, to the homeless, students and tourists, as well as training hundreds of young people every year in our different programs in areas like worship, music, missions, prayer, and bible study. And through all the ministries in the cities and the outreach into the nations, tell people about Jesus’ love for them.
Our current situation
The last few years have been taxing; leading our community through the Covid season, leadership changes, and facing many challenges with our children getting diagnosed with ADHD and autism. Then a few months ago someone in our extended family committed suicide. The world was suddenly upside down, for us and our kids. When we tried to return to our daily work, we struggled to do so. After consulting other leaders and co-workers, as well as mental health professionals, we’ve decided to have an extended time off, so we get some space to go from surviving to thriving, enabling us to keep running the race well.
Our dream
One advice we got was to try to really get away for a few weeks with our family during the summer break. While praying, we felt there is one place the whole family has dreamed of for a while, where the needs and desires of every family member overlap and that is… the United States of America. We have always loved America and Americans, and passed that love on to our kids too, for example by celebrating (American) Thanksgiving, 4th of July, and having Superbowl parties at our house. There is only one problem: none of them have had the chance to visit! We’re hoping to change that to get some rest, adventure, and a lot of American friends, food, and fun.

Several friends have offered us places to stay in and we're still connecting with more people we know. (Basically we're looking for open doors, so message us if you have any leads!)
Our biggest obstacle is the finances, but we know our Father in heaven is more than able to provide.
