SJTL Community Build Fundraising Campaign

Many people know about the tool library here in Saint John and understand our mission to equip people with the tools they need to take care of their homes and things. With 140+ members who share our tools in common, we love delivering this important service to our city. Along the way in our journey to inspire, equip, and revitalize our neighbourhoods we discovered problems and needs which we are passionate about solving. That’s where the Community Build comes in and what we are asking you to donate to.

 

The Community Build work has 3 major impacts it delivers on in Saint John. They are supporting homeowners in need, training people to acquire work in the trades, and equipping community groups who are tackling projects. To date, we have rallied 70+ volunteers who have assisted people who needed major help repairing their homes which have produced 30,000$ + in labour support for people who cannot afford to hire a company to do the work. Our Sawhorse program has provided training to over 50 people in our region with many of them finding work in the trades to support our construction industry. Finally, multiple community organizations like the YMCA, Quality Block Party, Roots & Wings, PULSE, Rockwood Community Garden, and Chroma NB have been able to utilize our space and expertise to do their own programming or get support for their projects. These are the things that we can ONLY do if we have the support of our community.

 

We are launching this 12, 000$ fundraising campaign to keep the momentum going on these impact pieces that we have been delivering on for 3 years. Our Fundraiser at Woodchucks kickstarted this campaign and brought in 2500$ in one night. If every single person who follows us on social media contributed 5$ to the cause, we would well exceed our goal for 2021. Although we are not a charity at this time and cannot provide tax-deductible receipts, we are a registered non-profit that is governed by a 7-person board of directors.
