Some stories change a family, a community, and everyone who knew them. Guy and Kerry McFadden Newman were two of those people. Both served with distinction in the Army Medical Services - Kerry as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps, and Guy as a Warrant Officer in the Royal Army Medical Corps. They were devoted to their work, to their community in Portrush, and above all, to their three children: Caoimhe, Fionn, and Teagan.
In February 2025, Kerry died suddenly, leaving a hole in the lives of everyone who loved her. Just five months later, in July, Guy passed away too. The loss of two parents in such a short space of time shook not only their family, but the wider military and Portrush communities who had known them as family, leaders, volunteers, teammates, mentors, and friends.
Their children - bright, brave, and carrying the best of both their parents - now face a future shaped by love, memory, and the support of those who refuse to let Guy and Kerry’s legacy fade.
Six@Sixty is one small way of honouring that legacy. It is not about miles or mountains or personal achievement. It is about remembering two remarkable people, standing beside their children, and ensuring that the community Guy and Kerry gave so much to continues to give back to them.
A Personal Note from Guy's brother, Terry:
I want to thank Shaun for choosing to honour Guy and Kerry in this way. He served with us, travelled with us, laughed with us, and stood beside our family when we lost them both. His loyalty has never wavered, and this gesture - quiet, humble, and rooted in love - means more than I can say.
And to everyone who supports Six@Sixty: thank you. Your kindness helps carry forward the spirit of two extraordinary people, and it supports the three children who now carry their light into the future.
- Terry Newman
