1- To supply 6 soccer balls and six computers to each of the 100 remote villages of Wol County in northeastern Uganda, and eventually cover the entire country and beyond.
2- To deploy a strategic plan, and create positive and productive activities by supplying balls and teaching soccer, and providing computer classes. By organizing leagues & competitions for teenagers and installing solar charging stations, we create new interests and minimize alcoholism, youth mischief, and petty crimes amongst young adults.
3- To provide immediate help for the orphans of Wol County with a long-term plan of building an orphanage.
Back Story:
In 2017, I met a very good man from Uganda, his name is Ojok Akaka. At the time, he was the mayor of his small village in northeastern Uganda and for that, he was paid USD 16.00 a month. That day, he had just received his monthly government paycheck and he was so happy because he finally had the whole $22 he needed to buy a real soccer ball for the village’s kids... I asked him: "_ a 'real' soccer ball?
Ojok explained that the kids had been playing soccer with a ball made out of old shoes, cardboard, and pieces of rope. He said the more he was able to keep his youth occupied, the less they got in trouble. He explained that once the war ended, they were able to repatriate home from the refugee camps. But they came back to a scorched land, and since then, the youth had very little to do and we're often up to no good, but now that they had discovered soccer, a lot had changed.
So that day, I gave him money to buy six real soccer balls, and that was the beginning of our 'Six Balls Foundation'. In the past 5 years, we purchased many more balls and expanded to neighboring towns; we now have a soccer league and six villages participating. It became the largest community event in the area, with hundreds in attendance at the big Sunday games, with food, dancing & festivities.
Ojok also cares for the town orphans to the best of his abilities with the few resources that are available. Last year, we completed the construction of the first brick-and-mortar building in the village.
In 2021, Ojok was elected chairman of Wol Sub-County, and he is now overseeing 100 villages. Our goal is to grow the foundation and supply soccer balls and much more to the 100 under-resourced villages in his remote territory. In the future, we want to bring computers and facilitate remote learning to the distant population of northeastern Uganda.
