Sisters Who Fund The Revolution

Donation protected
Hello Sister

We are in the midst of what is shaping up to be a movement for Black lives that will be sustained for a significant amount of time, especially with the proper resources. While there is much deserved attention and action in connection to anti-black racism and violence towards Black men and boys, there is much less attention on the danger this country poses to Black women and girls. In the tradition of Georgia Gilmore , we ask you to help us fund this movement.

Our goal is to establish a fund at a community foundation, instead of establishing our own non-profit organization. This will allow us to focus on fundraising and finding organizations to receive donations, and leave administrative duties to the foundation.  We have chosen the Amalgamated Foundation . For a  3% fee, the foundation will handle the administration of donations and investment of our dollars. Collaborating with a community foundation also allows contributors to take advantage of the benefits of charitable giving, and legitimizes the collection of money without having to initiate an independent non-profit organization.

This fund will prioritize supporting Black women led organizations that are advancing  the Black Lives Matter movement on behalf of Black women and girls. We will provide meaningful, no strings attached gifts to organizations that inspire us. While many people are motivated now to give to the cause, establishing a fund will allow for unified larger gifts to independent organizations, amplifying the impact compared to several smaller gifts spread over different organizations.  We can be more impactful together, than individually. The fund will initially be established with dollars contributed only by Black women, the founding black women who seed the fund- the “Seeding Sisters ”. After that, a wide reaching fundraising plan and strategy will be instituted to ensure the sustainability of the fund.

We are asking 100 individual Black women (including you) to make a $100 contribution to establish a fund with a community foundation , which will then be dispersed as quickly as possible to organizations aligned with our goals.  Please note this contribution is not tax deductible as it will be used to seed the initial $10,000 fund. Once the fund is established, all contributions thereafter will be made to the foundation fund and eligible for tax deductions. As a Seeding Sister, you will have a voice in how we expend the funds we collect in the future, by providing referrals to organizations that you believe would benefit as a recipient of the fund . However, to start, our organization that will benefit from the Seeding Sisters is Justice for Black Girls  a Black woman led organization that fights every day for a world that honors and protects Black girls. They do this by providing small grants to young Black women activists , train middle and high school age girls in policy and activism , and developing a Black Girlhood curriculum  to counter the miseducation of Black girls. We are very excited to support this organization founded by Brianna Baker , a dynamic young leader.

Please join us in supporting and uplifting organizations that prioritize Black women and girls.
