Sinéad Diskins' Kilimanjaro Climb for Charity
Donation protected
Hello Everyone!
My name is Sinéad Diskin and I am a Community Pharmacist based in Woodbine Pharmacy, Blackrock Co. Dublin.
I have always had an adventurous spirit and climbing Kilimanjaro has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember.
Working in a community pharmacy setting, I see first hand the huge impact and devastating consequences Cancer can have on patients and their families.
With this in mind, I have decided to attempt to raise funds for Cancer Care Ireland, specifically to the cancer research department which funds a number of collaborative cancer research programmes. These initiatives are going beyond the laboratory to ask new questions and to look for answers that will ultimately save lives and lead to improved treatments.
I am also going to support 'The Olive Branch for Children (“TOBFC”), a charity that helps remote communities in Tanzania assess their primary needs and establishes programs that target the most vulnerable in those communities.
Their focus is on community health care, HIV/AIDS prevention and care, early childhood education, food security, environmental issues, gender equality, and vulnerable children and women. The goal is to establish community-led programs that empower remote communities and generate models that can be replicated in communities throughout Tanzania and elsewhere.
Mount Killimanjaro or 'Killi' is the highest free standing mountain in the world standing at 5,895m and at summit can have a temperature in the range of -20'C to -30'C, ensuring quite the challenge!
However, while it will be a challenge it is also an immense privilege and I appreciate all of your support more than I can say.
Go Raibh Míle Maith Agat,
Sinéad
