Our family never imagined we would be facing this moment.
As a longtime caregiver to two grown children one with severe asthma and another with developmental disabilities stability has always been essential to our household. Creating a safe and supportive living environment has never been optional; it has been a necessity.
We are now working to rebuild after being evicted from our apartment following our decision to speak up about serious issues we witnessed in our community. We believed reporting these concerns was the right thing to do not only for ourselves, but for others who were impacted as well.
This situation was further complicated by unexpected hardship. In March, Monica was hospitalized, placing emotional and financial strain on our family. Despite efforts to recover and regain footing, Monica lost her job in August. The loss of income made it increasingly difficult to maintain housing stability as circumstances worsened.
Since the eviction, we have been moving between temporary accommodations while trying to secure permanent housing. The costs associated with deposits, application fees, temporary lodging, storage, and basic necessities have added up quickly.
Your support will help us secure stable housing, cover move-in costs, and rebuild after a sudden and deeply disruptive chapter in our lives.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser is equally appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for standing with our family.
We also want to thank USA Today for helping share our story and bring awareness to our experience.
