St Mary’s Church set in the Roman wall in the village of Silchester, North Hampshire has a beautiful set of 15 handbells, played over centuries, which are now in a sorry state and need professional restoration.
Silchester bellringers are passionate about preserving these bells for years to come and have agreed to to raising the £4240 required to make them playable once more and to give everyone locally the opportunity to try handbell ringing - a challenging but rewarding hobby!
The bellringers play the church bells every week and the handbells will compliment the main bells and also offer opportunities for everyone in the local community to try bell ringing regardless of their physical ability.
