On August 19th, our brave baby boy Silas Turner lost his battle with meningitis septicaemia. He was six months old. Prior to becoming ill, he was a beautiful, happy baby, who was full of smiles, and who enjoyed cuddles, brother/cat-watching, and spitting up milk into mum's hair. We are devastated and miss him terribly.

We are holding a funeral and wake to celebrate his life on September 2nd. In lieu of gifts or flowers, we would like to give friends and family the opportunity to make a donation in honour of Silas to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Women's and Children's Hospital, where he received treatment for ten days.

We were amazed and touched by the thoughtfulness, attentiveness and compassion of the medical team who cared for him. Their dedication to Silas was extremely reassuring and comforting to us. We always knew that his best interests were kept front and centre, and everything was done to give him the best chance. Also, their kindness and empathy towards us was invaluable at such a difficult time. We wish that no parents had to go through this; however, we are very grateful that the Women's and Children's PICU team will be there for those who do.

In acknowledgment of their support and to honour Silas's memory, we will be making a donation specifically to the PICU to support the amazing work they do for babies, children and their families. We would like to extend this to anyone else who would like to remember Silas and support the PICU in this way.

Just FYI, we will distribute any funds donated through this fundraiser to the PICU cost centre as a one off amount through the WCH Finance Team. This is instead of going through the Women's and Children's foundation or the Friends of the Women's and Children's hospital. This is just to ensure the funds go to the PICU specifically.
