Imagine giving birth during an ongoing genocide, in an overcrowded and understaffed hospital on the brink of collapse from taking care of burn victims, bomb victims and their displaced families, children suffering from malnutrition — all while medical supplies near depletion from the calculated siege of your community, most of which has been turned to rubble.
You cannot imagine what it is like. But this was the reality for Reham Hamdan, a Palestinian mother of 2 daughters, Sila who is 3 and newborn Sidra, now two months old.
Firas, their father and Reham’s husband, owned a supermarket. He proudly provided for his family. Then bombs were dropped on his grocery store, destroying their source of income.
Reham washes her family’s clothes by hand, takes care of her mother, Taghreed, who suffers from high blood pressure and is without her medications.
Now, the Hamdan family is displaced to a tent in Al-Mawasi in Rafah, with bombings visible from their tent.
Sidra and Sila are sick with fever and congestion.
There are no functioning hospitals left. The siege of Gaza is total and absolute. Reham holds onto hope that we the people of the world will see her struggle and help her provide for her children.
The Hamdan family is strong, resilient, and precious. They deserve life. As a global community, we recognize that no human being should suffer as the Palestinian people have been made to suffer. No child should be raised under a warplane.
How your donation will be used:
Reham needs food, water, milk, pampers, medicine and basic sanitary products which, with the destruction and prevention of humanitarian aid by Israeli soldiers and citizens alike, has made a set of diapers cost as much as $70USD. Even the smallest of donations will help her provide these necessities of life. ($5,000)
With the pressure to reopen of Rafah Crossing, Reham foresees the eventual evacuation from Rafah of the following family members:
Sidra, 2 months old
Sila, 3 years old
Reham, 29 years old
Firas, 32 years old
Taghreed, 52 years old
(5,000 x 5 = $35,000)
Finally, we have set aside another $10,000 dollars for what will happen when they exit Rafah: securing an apartment, food, clothes and other necessities, as well as covering any transfer fees and the portion gofundme takes for itself.
Please help this beautiful family survive genocide. Please help Sidra and Sila secure life.
All money will be transferred via Moneygram. We have confirmed successful transfers.
**UPDATE: All transfers are direct, not through moneygram. **
A bit about me:
My name is Kelsey. I met Reham Hamdan through Basand Nasser, her sister, who I am also helping raise funds for. I believe in the interconnectedness of our humanity. I believe that we can build a better world when we invest in each other, support each other, and find community.
