Sign 2 Me Daycare - Scholarship Fund

Sign 2 Me Daycare is the only Deaf owned Daycare in the Sacramento area with its goal to prevent language deprivation for Deaf children.

Sondra Chan began supporting families with Deaf children through her local Infant Program and as a Deaf Coach. She quickly noticed a huge problem for all the families she was working with, there weren't any daycares with fluent sign language models for Deaf children. She reflected on her own experience growing up as a Deaf child without access to Sign Language and knew about the impact language deprivation can have on social-emotional well-being and cognitive development. She was passionate about wanting to help these families and knew she could create a safe, and enriching environment so Deaf children thrive.

Sondra opened Sign 2 Me Daycare in 2020. Since then she has dramatically changed the lives of every child that has been lucky enough to walk through her door. I have seen growth firsthand as a mom of two children flourishing in her care.

The language acquisition window for the human brain is 0-5. Hearing families often dive into learning ASL for their children, BUT learning a language as an adult is challenging. Sign 2 Me gives children 100% access to language for their entire school day. Every child in her daycare uses sign language to communicate so children benefit from incidental learning, and thrive with their social-emotional development. Words cannot describe the magic that happens at Sign 2 Me. Sondra keeps her rates as low as possible, but to make this an option to all Deaf children that need a language rich environment we are starting a scholarship fund to support families in need.
