Hi! I am creating this GoFundMe to help my sister-in-law, Sierra Gross, with the struggles she's facing.
She has been a type 1 diabetic since she was 4 years old. In August of 2024, she found out she was pregnant with her miracle daughter, Autumn, after thinking she couldn't have kids. In September, she went to the eye doctor and found out she had a detached retina. After not being contacted by the eye specialist, she thought maybe this wasn't a big deal. Fast forward to one day in January, she woke up to no vision in her left eye. Concerned, she called the eye doctor and got in to find out it was a blown blood vessel and could have been avoided if the specialists contacted her or a referral was sent. They told her this could lead to blindness and she needs to get in to get the detached retina and blown blood vessel fixed. Being pregnant, they couldn't do the surgery until May 29th after the baby was born.
Autumn was born premature at 4 lbs via emergency c-section on March 13th (6 weeks early) where she spent the next 4 weeks and 1 day in the NICU with Sierra by her side. Sierra only had vision in her left eye during this time.
After healing from her c-section and having Autumn finally home with the family, Sierra returned to work to get her bills caught up. Everything was starting to go better until May 20th while at work, Sierra then lost vision in her right eye. She left work to go to the doctor to find out it was the same issue as the left one with a blown blood vessel. Surgery was scheduled for May 29th and they refused to move the date up.
Finally getting the surgery, she thought things would get better but unfortunately, over a month later, she still doesn't have her vision back.
She hasn't had vision in both eyes since May 20th and not only has she not been able to work, she can't even see her 3-month-old baby smile or know the color of her eyes. She struggles feeding her, changing her, cannot drive, cook, read, or text.
Sierra does not have another appointment with the eye specialist until July 2nd, but last week her doctor did rule out a brain tumor with a CT scan. She has been denied any short-term disability and is getting financially behind on everything without being able to work.
You can follow her story on TikTok for more details as she's been posting her struggles there.
If you can help, it's very much appreciated. It hurts us to watch her go through all of this.
