Sickle Cell Advocacy & Management Initiative
Funmi Bajomo set this page up on behalf of Bukkie Onadipe, her sister.
Hello, I am Bukkie Onadipe (some people know me as Lara).
My 50th Birthday is on the 17th of November 2022. Rather than receive birthday gifts, I would like to raise funds for the Sickle Cell Advocacy & Management Initiative (SAMI) in Nigeria. The organisation is an NGO founded in 2008 by Toyin Adesola. The organisation aims to ' empower and improve the lives of people, especially those with sickle cell disorder, through strategic partnership via educating, advocating, creating awareness, and providing support'. Please visit https://sicklecelladvocacy.org/ or @SAMIupdate (FB, IG, Twitter) for more information about the organisation.
SAMI is very close to my heart as I have Sickle cell Anaemia myself, and I understand too well how it affects not only the lives of the patient, but also that of the whole family and society. Growing up in Nigeria, I was very blessed to have been able to afford good healthcare and the best available. This is not the case for many people who cannot afford basic healthcare. Nigeria has the highest incidence of Sickle Cell Anaemia globally, so the need for support is enormous.
No amount donated is too small. Thank you very much for your support. God bless.
