SIBLINGS, one homeless and one murdered.

It's time to step UP. Maybe I should have a long time ago. Maybe we ALL should have. We didn't. We, their family failed them, the system failed them, and society failed them. The world wasn't something they were able to navigate which led to many hardships and struggles. I still have visions in my head of the abuse these two endured. Jimmy always takes a beating and God knows what else to protect his sister. Them holding hands as young as 6 and 7 running through the woods and deep snow together in the dark. Running from Child Protective Services. Other times running from the police. They only had each other. Yes, they grew up, and yes that picture is old and yes Jimmy is now in his 30s and still in SURVIVAL MODE. He was born drug and alcohol addicted. We know more about this now and I think we knew it then but denial or just looking the other way is easy. Both of them were born that way. Jimmy and his sister Nikki who he loved from the day she was born. He loved her like I have never seen a brother love a sister and want to protect his sister at all costs. I don't think either one of them made it past a few weeks of Junior High. No one cared. Or no one looked. Jimmy learned to read just enough to get along in his early twenties. He will outwork anyone I know. Has a heart bigger than the earth and will give you his last dime with no thought at all. That is a double-edged sword and a lot of people have taken advantage of this for years. We see it. Jimmy does not. He loves helping people and he sees the good in everyone. Jimmy has smiled through it all and just kept trying and trying and trying. He has not always made the best decisions but he does not have a mean bone in his body. Nikki, his sister struggled much more than Jimmy did. She has fought addiction for years and years. Yes, she lost her children, and yes she went to rehab, many many times. 2023 seemed to start pretty well for Jimmy and Nikki. Young adults see a better future and starting to learn to roughly navigate the world we live in alone as always. No one gave them a hand up. EVER. Not a real one anyway. At the end of 2022, Nikki again went to rehab, and Jimmy found a place in a motel after his landlord of many years retired, sold out and moved away. Jan 1, 2023, started hopefully for both of them. Nikki is out of rehab and sober, and Jimmy renting a room at a Motel. In the early morning hours of January 5, 2023, Jimmy was awakened by a fire. Thankfully Jimmy and 5 others thanks to Jimmy knocking on doors while the fire department was in route. Everything is gone. He was so proud of himself because he had been working 7 days a week and saving money for a place. In case you are wondering why he had cash, Jimmy does not understand banking. Jimmy is too proud to ask for help. None of us knew about this. He was homeless and sleeping on whatever couch he could and working to try to help himself back up. On January 21st, Nikki, Jimmy's sister living in another town in transitional housing from rehab offered to do a favor. You see an older gentleman also had a room there. He loved going to breakfast at a local gas station every morning. His son always drove him. That one morning, his son had to be to work early and was unable to take him there. Out of the kindness in Nikki's heart, she offered to walk the gentleman there and back so he could have his breakfast. That is when it happened. Nikki was gunned down along with 2 others that morning for NO REASON. I have attached a link to the article and I am sure some of you have seen the news coverage on it. Needless to say, Jimmy is devastated. And completely LOST. We have at this point brought Jimmy to our home. I have no doubt he will have a job in days and work hard. We can help by providing a roof over his head, some new clothes
and food. I am asking for help to build Jimmy a TINY HOME. We want Jimmy to have something of his very own. Until he can purchase a lot he can stay here at my place and be with family. We will donate ALL the labor. PLEASE HELP US HELP JIMMY. He is still that little boy in that picture to me. We can't bring his sister back but we can sure help him see what it's like to have something of his own and a support system. PEOPLE DO CARE. Even $5.00.
