This is a fundraiser for dear friends, Sita and Agustin, whose baby was born very early at 25 weeks and 5 days gestation in February. Baby Kai was born at just 2 pounds and 13 inches long. Thankfully, he is now in stable condition at a NICU in the Bronx and will hopefully go home with his parents and older sister soon.
In the meantime, Sita and Agustin are commuting each day from Washington Heights to the Bronx to be with Kai while he grows during this critical time. It is so important for preemie babies to be physically close to their parents. We are raising funds to help their family as they navigate through this challenging time. Money will go towards:
· Car service/gas to get to the hospital
· Special activities to care for Kai’s older sister, Cheyla, who hasn't met the baby because of NICU flu season restrictions
· Breastmilk Pump Gear, and Supplies
· Organizer to prepare home and storage for baby's homecoming
· Preemie gear: Kangaroo care shirts, Rebozo wrap, preemie clothes
· Other baby gear: Crib, Stroller, Glider chair, Antibacterial soap
· NICU items: Extra phone chargers, Hand sanitizer, Healing ointment, Moisturizer, Thermos, Snacks
Sita is an accomplished dancer-choreographer and community engagement director and Agustin is a talented musician and small business-owner. I first met Sita two decades ago in college when I auditioned for her dance piece. I was not invited to call-backs(!) but she wrote me the kindest and most thoughtful rejection email I have ever received, and we have been close friends ever since.
Sita and Agustin are truly the most thoughtful and selfless people you could ever meet. They are so generous in giving their time, energy, and activism for the betterment of our community and the planet.
Thank you for joining me to help to give Baby Kai a warm welcome into this world. I know Sita and Agustin really appreciate all the love and support. No amount it is too small.
