CLEAN 'N' GREEN SHOWER TRAILER FOR CHICO!
Everyone wants to be clean, but unhoused folks very often have no access to showers making it very difficult for them to have the hygiene that we take for granted. What would be a minor scratch for us, easily results in such a serious infection for them that they'd end up in the ER. So this is now becoming a public health threat for them and for our community. Lacking access to showers also makes it difficult for them to be as employable.
To address this, the North State Shelter Team (NSST), a volunteer group of concerned Chico citizens, has designed a shower trailer that with the volunteer commitments we have from a structural engineer, a welder, and a plumber will be much less expensive than commercially available models. The green design includes passive solar water heating with propane assist, and solar panels to charge the batteries that run the water pumps.
NSST has already purchased a heavy duty low deck trailer for the job. The unit will contain one standard shower stall and one handicapped shower stall. This shower trailer system is self-contained, so all the gray water used in the showers is captured in holding tanks.

The NSST has already received $4000 towards the costs of the project. This design is an efficient and economical way to address a pressing need in our community that will be fun to build and share with other towns.
