Where to even begin?

Our dad, Tom Shoop, has been battling alcoholism for several decades, causing many terrifying hospital stays over the past few years. He recently suffered a severe brain bleed requiring two surgeries (including a craniectomy) which left him in a coma with minimal brain function. Additionally, he suffered an ischemic stroke this morning (6/14), therefore worsening his already poor prognosis. He is not expected to make a meaningful recovery, and we have been going over end-of-life vs. palliative care.

Unfortunately, we believe this will ultimately end in his passing. We have begun discussing possible funeral arrangements to further prepare ourselves if his condition takes a turn for the worse.

To further complicate matters, our mother, Kathy Shoop has been battling alcoholism for the past three years. It has progressively worsened over time to the point where it has completely stolen her life from her. She is currently hospitalized for alcohol withdrawal and detox and has made the courageous decision to begin inpatient rehab when she is discharged from the hospital.

Addiction has ruined every aspect of their lives, placing them into severe bouts of depression and destroying any chance at maintaining stable employment/income. Because of this, their home has not been maintained in a long while. The front of the house is overgrown with weeds; there is dirt, dust, blood, feces and urine all over the floors. The bathrooms are essentially unusable, as all three of the toilets leak, and there is mold from the leaking water. While our mom is taking the steps she needs to get healthy we want to clean her home so she has a safe environment to return to - aiding in her recovery and sobriety. The amount of damage in their home is unfathomable. It is going to take a lot of work and restoration.

We are asking for assistance - we do not have funds to pay for funeral services, our mom's rehab, and restoring their home to a livable state. We are going to put forth every effort we have, but we are financially limited. Any and all donations will go directly to our parents and will help us tremendously. No children should have to go through this, let alone stress about how to pay for it when we are still trying to build a life for ourselves.

Moreover, we would like to thank all of our friends and family for all you have done for us thus far. This has been an incredibly difficult situation for us, and it will, unfortunately, continue to get worse before it gets better. We wouldn't be able to do this without all of your love, support and prayers. Thank you!
