Hi there! If you know me by now, you know my sister "Mama Koleka" is doing amazing things in her neighborhood of Nyanga Township in Cape Town, in Old Crossroads. She now has 70 girls under her wing, ranging from 10-17 years old-(ish?!). She currently supports this initiative on her own!! She's like your modern version of a joyful Mother Teresa, or a living Nelson Mandela with the true spirit of ubuntu! Her words speak louder than mine:
My name is Koleka Sofuthe. I started mentoring and grooming young children 2016 in my community because of its lack of facilities and resources. My priority is to help create a safe space and protect young children in my community and surroundings from being vulnerable and exposed to danger . My community is well known of its high crime and it was labelled a "No go area" . We meet everyday from Monday to Friday and about +_70 children . We do activities everyday like art paintings, drawings, singing and dancing, knitting and crochet and outings termly. Children also have snack which is bread and jam as some children its their first and last meal for the day due to their living circumstances. I do this out of my pocket money. I dont have sponsors and funders at the moment which we would love to have one to sustain our own project . Living conditions are not good, no food to eat to some families because of unemployment. Children became young parents due to death of their parents, some are neglected, raped and some are suffering from nutrition, lack of self esteem, bullying and trauma . Lack of resources and financial stability make it difficult for me to fulfill my vision. I would love to have a bigger space/shelter to accommodate more children, and children to have a proper meal for the day and to get free toiletries and sanitary pads.
Please make it happen by donating to us a little goes a long way .

She is forming a non-profit (yay!) to help support her bigger vision - but while we wait! - my sister-in-law is making non-toxic play-dough kits that would be lovely Christmas gifts for this tribe. They are also in desperate need of schools shoes!
If you'd like to put a smile on their face, we are looking to get all 70 of them an art kit ($10), & all 70 of them school shoes ($15). Please donate as you feel inspired to do so.
You can do either
or both
or several of both!

We are all mucho thankful for any support, big or small!!
