The homeless population is growing all across the nation, and with that growth comes needs that are often overlooked. When someone is on their feet all day, standing or walking, it takes a toll—especially if their shoes don’t fit or their socks are dirty. Most people don’t think about this when helping the homeless; they focus on food or blankets. But anyone who’s ever had sore feet knows how much it can affect your whole body. I want to do what I can to help.

To make sure the help goes where it’s needed most, I’ll be working with a liaison from the homeless community to figure out the right sizes for both men and women. I’ll use the funds to buy new shoes, socks, underwear, and toiletries at discount stores, and I’ll also reach out to shoe manufacturers about buying in bulk. If this works well, I hope to expand the effort beyond Charleston, reaching more people regionally and even nationally.

Dignity matters. Something as simple as shoes that fit, clean socks, or a toothbrush can make an enormous difference in someone’s physical and emotional well-being. If you can donate or share, you’re helping someone feel human again. Small acts of kindness meet real needs—and restore dignity where it’s been worn thin.
