Shirley Betts-Pilgrim needs our support

I want to start by deeply thanking each and every one of you who donated to support Shirley’s treatment and care. Your kindness and generosity have meant so much to us, and we are beyond grateful for your support.

It is with great sadness that I share the news that Shirley has passed away. We are devastated. Hugh, her husband, has been by her side throughout it all, and their daughter Aidan was truly the light of Shirley’s life.

In the spirit of full transparency we wanted to update you on how we now intend to use the money raised.

Hugh has been by Shirley’s side, caring for her tirelessly. This has undoubtedly put a financial strain on him as he has been unable to commit to work. It is my hope that these donations can be used to help ease the financial burden for Hugh, allowing him the space to grieve without additional worry, and also to ensure that Shirley is given the best possible send-off.

Hi I’m Lauren and it is with a heavy heart that I ask for your support for Shirley Betts Pilgrim, a beautiful soul who is currently fighting for her life in ICU in Grenada, in the Caribbean.

Shirley, a loving wife to Hugh and a devoted mother to her daughter Aidan, contracted a virus that tragically led to organ failure and has left her with a devastating condition known as Locked-In Syndrome - conscious and aware of her surroundings but unable to move or speak.

Shirley’s family has been by her side every single day, especially her husband, Hugh, who has not left her side since this began. Shirley’s daughter, Aidan, who is the light of her life, is studying in Norway, and the distance between them has only made this heartbreaking situation even more challenging for them all.

At this moment, Shirley requires round-the-clock care, and the financial pressure is immense. We are desperately working to raise £60,000 to help cover the costs of Shirley's care in Grenada, as well as provide support for Hugh and Aidan during this incredibly difficult time. The strain of caring for Shirley while ensuring her dignity and comfort is beyond what any family should have to endure alone.
