Shelter & Palliative Care for Bonnie Farmer

Hi, my name is Jessica and I am fundraising for my mother, Bonnie Farmer. She is a daughter, mother, sister, and friend. She is also one of the strongest people I have ever known. To say that she has been through a lot is an understatement. Her colorectal cancer was first discovered in 2015 during a colonoscopy, where she received emergency surgery to remove the tumor and a portion of her descending colon. By 2021, the cancer had metastasized to her left ovary as a large Krukenberg tumor, which was removed that January. In addition to the new tumor, the doctors also told her that she was in the peritoneal carcinomatosis development stage, with malignant ascites development which causes fluid buildup in the abdomen. Both fights were marked with emergency surgeries to save her life.

Due to these events and the circumstances that followed, she has been unable to work. Her primary objective throughout this time has been to make her health a priority. I helped to relocate her to FL a little over a year ago, but she continues to face immense obstacles. She is unable to obtain the palliative care through caregivers and/or case managers that she was ordered to seek upon her last surgery due to lack of health insurance. After several attempts early on and recently, with help from the legal community, both local and federal governments have denied her the medical and financial assistance she needs. She needs palliative care because she gets tired easily, experiences chest and abdominal pain, and needs help with physical tasks.

She is in dire need of immediate housing that would accommodate her physical and mental well-being on this healing journey, and as of this writing is 12 days from the street. Local state and community emergency assistance programs are full and not accepting new applicants. We are trying to get her a 5th wheel so that she does not have to worry about where she will lay her head at night, as well as focus on her recovery. She is one of the people that holds one of the biggest parts of my heart. We share a very special bond, and I am not prepared to lose her yet.
