Dear friends,
Please join me in making a difference for the Durham region community where emergency shelter for women and children in need is provided within a safe and compassionate environment, and has served more than 16,000 women and children since 1996! As a recent volunteer, upon speaking with the manager of the shelter I came to realize the dire requirements of some repairs needed for the home which was built in the 1800's. So in short I've started this campaign to raise awareness and ask for your monetary contributions to assist the much needed building maintenance and reconstruction of parts of the MUSLIM WELFARE HOME (Oshawa, Ontario location).
Please help us meet our goals and raise awareness of the shelter, a safe haven for women and children in great need! I visited the home and saw the happy smiles of a little girl and her sister, running and playing! Made my heart melt, wishing I could do more for them!!!
Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause as any donation from you will definitely help make an impact for everyone this home serves.

Message from the manager of the Muslim Welfare Home (MWH)
Supported by the region of Durham, the MWH which was established in 1996 has provided shelter to more than 16,000 women and children (clients) in need. The partnership with community organizations and generous donations from the community allow MWH to run its daily operations efficiently.
Our Mission is to serve humanity, irrespective of religion, nationality, caste or creed. Our goal is to provide individuals and families in need with the basic necessities of life such as food, shelter, free healthcare services and culturally-sensitive communal living. We also run an emergency Motel program since 2013; the eligibility requirements of the program include women with male children over the age of 13 and individuals with physical disabilities. Both of these programs provide the following services to our clients:
. counselling
. referrals to community resources and housing search
. housing support services
. life skills workshops
Supporting the MWH means you're supporting us in providing the information, tools and necessities to help women, their children and families to rebuild their lives after a crisis!
As the only shelter for women and children experiencing homelessness in Durham Region, MWH is constantly meeting our maximum capacity of 45 beds. Thanks to generous donations and support from the community, we are able to provide shelter, 3 meals a day, life skills workshops, housing support, counselling, and much more.
Due to the high amount of client traffic, the house faces the stress of the demands placed on it physically. The MWH is continuously looking to improve its shelter for the clients and community it serves as the shelter is an aging home built in the mid 1800’s, and strives to upgrade and maintain its premises for the comfort and safety of its clients.
With that being said the home has upcoming projects for Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 that it would like to complete. We're looking to raise $35, 000 and hope for your contributions to help us meet our goals.
Here are our primary repair needs for this fundraising campaign:
. roof repair for main building
. deck repair/replacement main building
. internal wall and ceiling repairs and painted
. storage shed replacement
These are all priority items due to the safety concerns and necessities. The shingles of the garage roof and front porch are worsening and will soon become a threat to client’s safety and will pose a threat to the food storage area in the garage, during heavy rainfall. Our decks support is slowly deteriorating and will also be a major safety concern. Our current storage shed is broken and is not in a usable condition. We are looking to replace this. The home is in need of repairs and a fresh coat of paint, which would vastly improve the appearance of the shelter for our clients.
Our organization relies on the generous donation of donors like you. We hope that you will be able to support our efforts in completing these goals. All monetary contributions are much appreciated. Please share this project with others and spread the word.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and please do not hesitate to contact me at with any questions about this request.
Sincerely,
