Hello everyone,
This Ramadan, with your help, I am trying to raise funds to help support an impoverished 9 year old girl, who lives in a village within the Lakimpur region of India. Her mother passed away from throat cancer and after her mom’s death, her father took her two brothers and left her alone to fend for herself, as he said that having a daughter will not bring him any value. She was left abandoned for a short period of time but is now living with her maternal grandparents. Her grandfather is very old and blind and her grandmother is partially paralyzed due to battling an illness with polio when she was younger. She is now responsible of being the primary caretaker for both her grandparents who are sick and nearing the ends of their lives. Once they are gone, she will have no one and her neighbors do not offer them help as they are Muslims living in a Hindu dominated area. They currently live in a group home built and shared by other villagers, but that too has been falling apart. Along with this, several members of their group home have been sick with COVID-19 and effective social distancing is almost impossible.
Even amidst all of life’s hardships, she exudes positivity and hopes for a better life. After hearing about her story and speaking to her myself, I was full of tears and knew that it is up to me to spread awareness of her story. With your help, maybe we can help ease some of the stress and burden this little 9 year old girl has to face every single day. She hopes to complete school but first and foremost needs financial assistance for basic necessities like shelter, food and access to clean water.
