We are Shandre, Juul, Mihlali, Esam, and Jessica, and over the next 8 weeks we’ll be in Port Alfred, South Africa, working with a truly special place: Sheilla’s Daycare.

Every day, Sheilla and her team of four “mamas” care for 70–100 children, while their parents work hard to provide for their families. Many of these families cannot afford the daycare, yet Sheilla opens her doors with love, safety, and education for every child.

We’re here to help make the daycare safer, cleaner, and more nurturing, and to take their garden to the next level with permaculture. To make the biggest difference, we’re focusing on five urgent priorities:

1. Fix the upstairs/downstairs windows.

2. Staff training.

3. Mattresses and blankets.

4. Secure the entrance gate.

5. Repair the staircase.
