My name is Michael Felder, Founder and CEO of Shear Joy. My journey to this work began long before the organization existed. I was raised in the foster care system and come from very humble beginnings. Despite those challenges, I graduated from North Augusta High School and went on to proudly serve 20 years in the United States Navy in submarine service.

while in the Navy, I began volunteering at a boys’ home. It was there that I noticed something simple, yet powerful: many of the young men lacked basic grooming, and with it, the confidence and sense of dignity that every child deserves. What started as haircuts quickly turned into conversations, mentoring, encouragement, and guidance. I saw how something as small as a haircut could change posture, attitude, and outlook.

From that passion, Shear Joy was born.

Today, we are raising funds to:

• provide free grooming services for youth and families in need

• create mentorship opportunities and life-skills support

• connect families with community resources and hope
