She Shoots, We Score – Sofia’s Bat Mitzvah Project

This fall, as part of her Bat Mitzvah journey, Sofia is combining two things she loves — sports and community — to support women’s empowerment.

Her project, She Shoots, We Score, is an independently designed fundraiser to benefit Women’s Philanthropy Impact through the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland. This initiative supports programs that empower women and girls through leadership, mentorship, and community.

On October 4th, Sofia is hosting a 2v2 Mother-Daughter Basketball Tournament. You can support by pledging $54 in honor of a team, or giving any amount that feels right. In Jewish tradition, donations in multiples of 18 are especially meaningful — the number 18 represents chai, or “life,” symbolizing good luck and blessing. Any gift, large or small, is truly a way of giving life and strength to this cause.

Sofia and her sisters will also be running a bake sale and refreshment stand, with all proceeds going toward her goal of raising $2,000.

On October 22nd, Sofia will be recognized at the Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy Impact Night, featuring Lindsey Gottlieb — USC Women’s Basketball Coach, leader, motivator, and champion of women’s empowerment. Sofia will proudly represent the next generation of engaged Jewish women and girls in sports and community.
