Shay Kim “Fury” Huestis - Family Fund

Meet baby Shay Kim "Fury" Huestis, our little warrior born on November 1st, 2023, weighing only 1lb. 7oz. She made her entrance into the world three months early and is currently bravely navigating her early days in the NICU, snug in her tiny incubator (which we lovingly call her little spacecraft). Shay, our "micro-preemie," is under the watchful care of dedicated hospital staff, and while her journey is marked by being "stably unstable" as she grows, she's fighting every day.

Shay's early arrival brought unexpected challenges, leading our family, Brett and Shannon Huestis, into a crisis. Shannon faced stages of preeclampsia during her pregnancy, forcing her onto disability and bed rest for a month before Shay's premature birth. The health risks for both mother and baby prompted Shay's sudden entrance into the world.

Amidst this, family members rallied by Brett and Shannon's side, some even taking time away from their jobs to support during this crisis. The good news is that Shannon, Brett, and Baby Shay are now in recovery. While Brett and Shannon visit Shay daily at the hospital, the family is not yet free from this crisis.

Brett and Shannon find themselves thrust into parenthood sooner than expected, grappling with the aftermath of a major surgery and the financial strain caused by extended time away from work. Despite disability and family leave, there's a looming struggle to supplement lost income and cover unforeseen hospital bills.
