Shaving 2ft of hair for 2 boys & Noah's Ark kids
Hi, I'm Summer (13).
I'm hoping to raise some money for Noah's Ark children's charity, Cardiff.
I am going to SHAVE ALL my hair off. I've been growing my hair my whole life. My trade mark hair style is 2 french plaits which is how I've worn my hair since I was very little. I'm known for my long hair and how I'm easily identified. The one with the super long hair lol. I will be donating my hair so someone else can have a choice to have hair. I am having a trim on Wednesday so that my hair is in its best condition.
I am hoping to donate over 2ft of hair.
The reason behind this is simple. My baby brother and his best friend.
My baby brother Joe has been poorly his whole life. He has problems affecting his liver, lungs and more. He was failure to thrive as a very small baby where things got really serious before it was discovered that Joe has a lot of allergies. Joe spent quite some time in and out of Noah's Ark children's hospital having a lot of tests, stay overs and regularly visits still.
Then there is Marshall, Joe's best friend. He has leukaemia, he was diagnosed when he was 3 and is now 6. He's near the end of his treatment now. He has spent even more time than Joe in Noah's Ark children's hospital with many many stays and day visits.
We've spent a lot of time with Marshall and his little brother Kolby, especially since Covid started. Both boys were in the shielded category. Joe for his lung condition and Marshall due for being immunosuppressed. Both families had and still have to be super careful on a day to day basis. The boys at times have to be kept apart for long periods, Joe gets sick A LOT especially with tonsillitis (4 times since Christmas alone), then he gets chest infections and swollen glands all the time, he misses a lot of school through illness and different hospital visits. So that means they can't see each other or play because Joe could make Marshall seriously ill.
Marshall is due to finish his chemo this autumn, but it will take some time for things to settle back down and then 5 years of testing before he's officially cancer free. By then he'll just be starting secondary school. Joe however, there is no answers and no end in sight. Joe may get better over time or he may not, we don't know.
What I do know is both boys have had a huge journey in there little lives and Noah's Ark children's charity mainly through play therapy have helped both families and them to enjoy the awful moments of being a poorly child.
I want to raise as much money as I can to go towards them helping other children and their families, like they have helped all of us.
