Shaurya Mehta's Eagle Project

My name is Shaurya Mehta and I am member of Boy Scout Troop 100, Moreno Valley, California.  I have been involved in the Boy Scouts since Kindergarten, and it has been an integral part of my life ever since. Scouting has taught me what it means to be a good person, a good citizen, and a good leader. Because of the supportive and encouraging environment , I would like to acknowledge and give thanks to all Scouts, parents, and friends for contributing as I continue on my path to Eagle.

I am currently working towards achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor one can receive in the Boy Scouts. In order to reach this goal, I must complete a service project that would benefit the community.

My eagle project is to build benches for the elderly at my temple, Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Riverside, CA. In Hinduism, it is a custom to take off your shoes as a sign of respect before you enter, but when elderly people exit the temple they have no place to sit and put on their shoes. Either the chairs are in a corner or they are being used in another event. This situation has caused many elderly people to half stand half sit which causes many problems.  The money I obtain from this donation will be split up into two sections. I will use half of the money for my project and I will use the other half to donate to the temple for their use.  This temple has given me so much, and I just want to give back this amazing temple.
