Home Repairs for Shannon and TJ
Hi, Everyone!!!
This campaign is to help our friend Shannon with home repairs and modifications. Shannon is a single mom to a ten-year-old boy named TJ who has autism. He is adorable, affectionate, and he loves tickles, motorcycles, school buses, being outside, swimming, swinging, and listening to music! TJ displays all of the core symptoms associated with autism (social and communication impairments, and repetitive or restricted interests and behaviors), but, despite his intensely loving nature, he also displays hallmarks of the severe end of the spectrum – property destruction, aggression, sensory processing disorder, self-injury, anxiety, outbursts, and sleep issues.
When TJ was born, Shannon was working in the public school system as a Behavior Interventionist. TJ was diagnosed with autism at age three, and a few months after his diagnosis Shannon began working at the Marcus Autism Center, where she loved helping children like TJ and parents like herself. Two years ago, Shannon left her job and moved back to Macon to be TJ’s full-time caregiver. He requires constant supervision, since he has no safety awareness – he doesn’t look before crossing the street and he also elopes and wanders. Since moving to Macon, TJ’s destructive behaviors increased and have resulted in numerous damages to their home, including 12 broken window panes. We are humbly asking for donations to not only help Shannon pay for home repairs, but to also pay for home modifications to prevent further damage.
How your donations could help Shannon and TJ:
$20 buys screens to replace on 2 screen doors
$25 buys a wireless door alarm (eloping/escaping/wandering)
$25 buys a camera security system
$75 buys new flooring for the bathroom (TJ flooded the bathroom and the vinyl flooring needs to be replaced.)
$100 buys door knob covers, refrigerator and cabinet locks, and padlocks
$100 buys foam interlocking exercise mats for the walls in TJ’s room (self-injury, headbanging)
$100 buys storage bins
$125 buys mini blinds to replace the broken ones
$150 buys an adaptive swing (sensory integration)
$150 buys a crash pad for TJ to sleep on (he destroyed his bed)
$150 buys fencing materials to keep backyard secure
$200 buys plexiglass to prevent further window damage
$300 buys a new bathroom vanity (TJ destroyed the vanity and the bathroom sink is no longer attached to the wall.)
$700 buys glass to replace 12 broken window panes and pays for labor
As a single mom to a child with severe autism, our friend faces sleep deprivation, constant worry, exhaustion, continuous damage to their home, meltdowns, and endless medical, social, and educational battles, but those of you who know Shannon know that she always has a smile on her face, a positive attitude, and a fierce love for her child! Your donations would make a huge difference for her and TJ, and would help to make their home a comfortable, safe place to live again.
Thank you!!!
