In communities and neighbourhoods in and around Woking, hunger is a real issue that people including families and children, face every day. This is even more acute in the unprecedented times that we are currently facing. Our most vulnerable are children who are out of school and rely on free school meals, low-income families, the elderly, individuals facing job disruptions and those in self isolation due to Covid-19. Right now these people are facing great barriers to receiving safe and consistent access to meals.
Now is the time to take this opportunity and for us to come together to support our communities and neighbours in their critical time of need. So far the Shah Jahan Mosque (SJM) has provided food packs for over 150 households and rest assured we will continue to do so throughout this crisis.
The goal of the SJM Covid-19 Food Relief Fund, launched by the Mosque Management, is to help ensure that all our vulnerable communities and those in self isolation have reliable access to food.
Food banks are on the front lines of this rapid-response effort, however, they are facing new challenges every day:
- Responding to the unprecedented number of people who are in need of food
- Food supply-chain disruptions, and access to products
- Distributing meals in ways that maintain the health and safety of all involved
- Access to enough volunteers.
Here is who we are working with:
SJM Covid-19 Food Relief Fund will help purchase the basic necessities such as milk, bread, butter, fruit, vegetables, tinned foods, cereal, snacks, juice etc. As we continue to monitor and map food gaps, we have partnered with other organizations and businesses to meet the demand together.
In times of need, a plate of food is both vital nourishment and a message of hope from the community. It shows that the Shah Jahan Mosque community cares and we are here to make sure tomorrow things will be better. We are here for you- now more than ever for our frontline heroes and our most vulnerable communities and neighbours.
Together, we can help ensure that no child, family, or individual is left without access to food.
Here’s how you can help:
If you are in a position to contribute and you have the means to take action, we hope you will donate today. No amount is too small as ‘a little kindness goes a long way.’
If you know anyone who is vulnerable or in self isolation that needs help, please contact us for a food pack delivery or any other assistance they may require.
Together we can beat this!
